February 24 Vodafone + Dell Latitude + Vista + Huawei USB 3G modem problem solved!I am writing this post just as a heads-up to the ultimate (I hope so) solution of our problems - install Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1). For those of us who are lucky enough to already have access to Windows Vista SP1 through our Microsoft Technet subscription, it seems that this installation solved the 3G problem. Within March, Vista SP1 will be more broadly available to anyone. After being frightened with a blue screen that I initally got while running Vodafone Mobile Connect after installing SP1 (which was the solution to the Dell freeze problem described in previous posts), I started searching all over again. Nothing seemed to work after installing SP1. What I finally did was to delete every Vodafone software I had (and I had all flavors) and remove the 3G modem from the Modems section of the control panel. After that, I rebooted and just plugged in the E272 modem, let Vista install it as a device and let the modem install its integrated Vodafone Mobile Connect Lite application (ie, as it should work by default). I am still connected for almost an hour to the Vodafone 3G network with no freeze at all. Let's all owners of the Dell Latitude + Huawei 3G USB modem combination hope that this is the end of our 3G saga! February 05 My new LG KS20 Windows Mobile phone - bugs and problemsMy new LG KS20 (aka LG MS25 in the USA) was the best choice and the cheapest in the Windows Mobile class, so I bought it without hesitation. It is beatiful, has the leatest Windows Mobile incarnation (6.0) and runs pretty well. However, as with all complex smartphones, it has its share of bugs and problems. So, I decided to compile a list of the problems and their associated solutions (up to know).
- There is no SHDC support. However, numerous SDHC drivers from third-party suppliers seem to address the problem. I have successfully put a 8GB microSD card after installing an shdc.cab and formatted it in the mobile phone (google for sdhc.cab for more details) - I have also experienced the "caller cannot be heard after a certain period of time." The solution seems to be to install SPB Mobile Shell. - Many times, I cannot connect to some wireless networks. Solutions seem to be to put a static ip in the wireless adapter (if you know the IP range of the access point) and/or delete the proxy server settings (if you have put one, due to cell carriers' needs to access the internet) - After connecting to the computer using the supplied USB, the pen does not align well. A solution has not been found yet, but an indirect solution that I use is to control the phone using the Microsoft Activesync Remote Display utility through my PC. - Users installing Destinator, experience problems with the voice instructions - namely, the speaker of the phoner seems to stop so no voice instructions can be heard. The proposed solution would be to play a considerably long, dummy (silent) voice file in the background to keep the speaker on. If you know of something else, please let me know.
